The PA Pork Producers Council (PPPC), joined in on the Give-A-Ham Challenge fun by donating more than 5,000 pounds of pork this holiday season.
Through the #GiveAHam Challenge, producers were encouraged to support local food banks by purchasing #realpork and donating in their local communities, PPPA said in a release. Pennsylvania pork producers made donations in Adams, Franklin, Juniata, Mifflin, Montgomery, Northumberland, Lancaster, Luzerne and Schuykill Counties.
As well, the PPPC, alongside Leidy’s Premium Meats, made a donation totaling $10,000, over 4,000 pounds of pork to the Philabundance Food Bank system in Philadelphia, Penn., a food bank system that services nine counties and more than 350 different agencies.
“December is traditionally a season full of giving and this is one way that we as pork producers can show our support for families in need all over the state. Real pork is a nutritious, high-quality protein that is easy to prepare,” said Ben Barcovtch, PPPC Board president, in a release. “Our producer led board looks forward to this program every year.”
