National Pork Board Names Dr. David Newman as Senior Vice President for Market Growth

The National Pork Board (NPB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. David Newman as the senior vice president for market growth, effective June 19, 2023. Newman, a renowned expert in pork marketing, will lead a team of 16 professionals dedicated to expanding market demand both internationally and domestically. In addition, he will oversee the organization's initiatives in health and nutrition research and outreach.

With his extensive background in the pork industry, Newman is well acquainted with the NPB and its objectives in these areas. Having served two three-year terms on the NPB since 2016, he held the prestigious position of board president from 2020 to 2021. Throughout his tenure, Newman actively contributed to various committees and task forces focused on strategic planning, swine health, producer services and domestic marketing. His notable efforts have been instrumental in advancing U.S. pork exports to key markets such as Mexico, Japan and China. Since 2021, he has also served as an executive committee member of the U.S. Meat Export Federation.

Bill Even, CEO of the National Pork Board, commended Newman's dedication to the pork industry, stating, "David's tireless advocacy and profound understanding of pork marketing make him an invaluable asset. His expertise in international trade, domestic demand, meat science and research is unparalleled. We are delighted to have him lead the team responsible for driving growth in the pork category and creating value for America's pig farmers."

Newman joins the NPB following a successful career as a full professor at Arkansas State University, where he spearheaded the meat science program and the university's swine research facility. Furthermore, he is the owner and president of Newman Farm Heritage Berkshire Pork and Quality Meat Solutions, a firm specializing in meatcase metrics and quality research, as well as animal welfare audits for farms and processing plants. Newman holds a Ph.D. in Meat Science and Animal Science from North Dakota State University, along with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Missouri, with a minor in international agriculture.
