No matter what state fair you go to this year, bacon is all the rage! Here’s are a few of our favorites:
Iowa State Fair:
Funnel Bacon on a Stick was a hit in Iowa. Host of the Today Show, Dylan Dryer, said it “tasted like pancakes and bacon all in one.”
Let’s not forget the Pork Almighty! Although it doesn’t have bacon, it’s worthy of mention as winner of this year’s “People’s Choice Best New Food” contest.
It contains beer-battered twister fries and is covered with queso cheese sauce, smothered with smoked shredded pork, topped with sauteed onions, green peppers, Cookies BBQ sauce and sprinkled with shredded cheese.
Minnesota State Fair:
The maple-bacon caramel roll produced at the Birchwood Cafe in Minneapolis for the Minnesota Farmers Union, is “a barely sweet spiral of yeasted dough dotted with an excess amount of crisp, smoky, Minnesota-made bacon bits,” says the Minnesota Star Tribune. It’s glazed with a bacon fat-infused caramel sauce. Or how about these Candied Bacon Donut Sliders?
Texas State Fair:
Smokey Bacon Margarita won a “BIG TEX Choice” award, but consumer reviews were mixed.
