Top Five Finalists Named in #100kPorkChop Challenge

After weeks of enthusiastic voting from the public, the People’s Pork Chop Awards finalists are out.

The top five finalists are out for the $100K Pork Chop Challenge. This unique contest celebrates restaurants in the Capital Beltway area that feature unique and delicious pork chop dishes. Hosted by the Virginia Pork Council, with support from the Iowa Pork Producers Association, North Carolina Pork Council, National Restaurant Association and Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, this challenge offers a $100,000 prize to the winning restaurant and a $100,000 donation of pork products to the Capital Area Food Bank.

After weeks of enthusiastic voting from the public, the People’s Pork Chop Awards finalists are:

  • Dauphine’s - 1100 15th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005
  • Death Punch Bar - 2321 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 20009
  • Miss Toya’s Southern Kitchen - 3216 Pennsylvania Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20020
  • Rasika West End - 1190 New Hampshire Ave NW, Washington, DC 20037
  • Sloppy Mama’s BBQ - 5731 Langston Blvd, Arlington, VA 22207

“These exceptional chefs and their restaurants have captivated the taste buds of the D.C. metro area with their unique and delicious pork chop dishes,” event organizers said in a release.

The public voting phase concluded on July 3. This process allowed thousands from the Washington D.C. metro area to directly influence the competition.

Finalists will now advance to the final judging round. Culinary professionals and pork producers will evaluate their dishes on July 11-12. The winner will be announced at the prestigious 42nd RAMMY Awards Gala (The RAMMYS) on July 21.

Their creativity and dedication to crafting exceptional pork chop dishes have highlighted the culinary talent in the D.C. metro area,” Roy Lee Lindsey, executive director of the Virginia Pork Council, said in a release. “We are excited to see the impact this competition has had on the community, both in celebrating our local chefs and contributing to the fight against hunger with our donation to the Capital Area Food Bank. Congratulations to Death Punch Bar, Dauphine’s, Miss Toya’s Southern Kitchen, Sloppy Mama’s BBQ, and Rasika West End on being finalists, and thank you to the thousands who helped shape the finals with their votes.”
