With the White House Conference of Hunger, Nutrition and Health set to take stage, Smithfield Foods submits commitments to fighting hunger and food insecurity.

“The commitments we are sharing with the White House today are not brand-new goals for us; we have been focused on fighting food insecurity and hunger, supporting our communities and driving innovation in sustainability for decades,” says Shane Smith, president and CEO of Smithfield Foods. “We look forward to working side by side with the many public and private sector stakeholders participating in this conference to continue to drive transformative change to end hunger.”

Smithfield Foods commitments include:

• Improve Food Access and Affordability:

-Donate 200 million servings of protein, valued at $200 million by 2025, in addition to 107 million servings previously donated during the pandemic

-Drive operational efficiencies to produce more with less and ensure a consistent supply of accessible, affordable, high-quality, nutrient-dense protein

• Integrate Nutrition and Health

-Develop innovative solutions to increase functionality and viability of byproducts, specifically in pharmaceuticals and medical devices through Smithfield BioScience

-Offer enhanced benefits, education and screening through the company’s health program for full-time Smithfield employees

• Empower All Consumers to Make and Have Access to Healthy Choices

-Set precedent of the first online ingredient glossary in the industry to provide clear information on product ingredients

-Increase transparency through clear labeling on all products by 2025

-Reduce sugars and sodium by 10% on all products by 2025

-Simplify and transform ingredients in all-natural and naturally cured products

-Reduce allergens in products

-Ensure a variety of products to meet consumer dietary requirements
