Pork Product News: Dual-Detection Needle, AgPack Addition, Zinc Oxide Replacement, New Fumonisin Esterase
Exciting new products in the pork industry have been announced, including a dual-detection needle by Neogen, AgPack addition of Ford Pro, zinc oxide replacement by Layn Natural Ingredients and new fumonisin esterase by DSM. Here's the details:
Neogen Releases New Dual-Detection Needle
Updating Neogen’s version of its best-selling Ideal D3 detectable needles, the company has released a new, patent-pending D3X needle claiming to be six times more detectable than the conventional and stainless-steel needles.
The D3X needle has been designed using detectable metal alloy needles, featuring stronger side walls, increasing load strength and reducing risk of bending and breaking. The needles also feature a new, highly visible and easy-to-grip red extraction collar designed to prevent a broken needle from submerging in the skin of the animal, the release says.
“This new D3X needle offers producers increased visibility and quick removal, increasing efficiency, ensuring food safety, and preventing broken needles from reaching consumers,” says John Adent, Neogen’s president and CEO.
Ford Motor Company’s Ford Pro Joins AgPack
As the latest entity to join AgPack, the bundle of exclusive farm and ranch supply discounts available only through Certified Agriculture Dealerships, Ford Motor company’s Ford Pro becomes the 18th participant in the program.
As part of the program, customers may benefit from an aggregated supply savings valued at more than $30,000 per purchase. Additionally, customers will receive an exclusive 15% discount on the monthly fees of the Ford Pro Telematics Software Services.
“The agriculture community is extremely data driven, especially when it comes to technology that can help improve operational efficiency,” says Travis Hunt, Ford Pro intelligence business development manager in a release. “As a part of the Ag Pack program, Ford Pro Telematics will help farmers connect their vehicles to always on, real-time insights that can improve fleet uptime and lower their total cost of ownership.”
Come January, customers will be able to visit www.AgTruckTrader.com to receive an individual AgPack ID number, which will be used to claim an AgPack for any truck at any Certified Ag Dealer in the country.
All AgPack participants and details can be found through its website.
Layn Natural Ingredients New Zinc Oxide Replacement for Post-Weaning Piglets
Combining selected polyphenol-rich botanical extracts to help support healthy growth and gut health in piglets post weaning, Layn Natural Ingredients announced the launch of its product, TruGro PW, as an effective and proven solution.
Transitioning from sow milk to solid feed presents challenges to producers for piglets in the post-weaning phase. With intestinal and metabolic immaturity of piglets, the animals may experience villi atrophy, loss of barrier function, low nutrient absorption, irregular fermentation in the hindgut and pathogen microbial proliferation, as well as increased stress causing loss of appetite, diarrhea and stunted growth, the release notes.
While zinc oxides has been used to control post-weaning affects, the European Union’s ban of such practices in June 2022 led to Layn Natural Ingredients’ solution in TruGrow PW, which has performed better than zinc oxide in total feed intake and overall feed conversion ratio, and has also shows to be highly effective for diarrhea control in trial studies.
DSM Animal Nutrition and Health Announces Fumonisin Esterase, FUMzyme
Now available for use in poultry and swine feed in the U.S., DSM Animal Nutrition and Health has announced its first FDA-approved purified enzyme, FUMzyme, fumonisin esterase, to specifically and irreversibly degrade fumonisins into non-toxic metabolites.
“With each year’s crop we see variation in mycotoxin contamination patterns, says Paige Gott, Ph.D. and DSM mycotoxin and Hy•D category manager. “Fumonisin is one mycotoxin that continues to show high prevalence across the U.S. In fact, since 2014, this mycotoxin has been detected in 50% to 80% of corn samples screened as part DSM’s annual mycotoxin survey.”
FUMzyme serves as a tool for producers to incorporate as a comprehensive mycotoxin risk management strategy, Gott adds.
