As the days grow shorter and temperatures begin to drop, signaling the end of summer, the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council (PPPC) are proud to announce the successful conclusion of their Strike Out Hunger Partnership for the 2023 season.

With a shared commitment to providing high-quality, nutritious protein to the Northeast region of Pennsylvania, PPPC and the SWB RailRiders joined forces to create the impactful Strike Out Hunger campaign, notes a recent release.

Matt Hamilton, assistant general manager of the RailRiders organization, expressed their dedication to community involvement in a recent release, stating, " It's our mission here with the RailRiders to be involved with our community as much as we possibly can. In our partnership with the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council, we shed light on the needs of the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Book to our community, while giving back at the same time. Our players and front office staff have enjoyed the education and experience with the food bank this year and hope to continue to grow this partnership and relationship in the years to come."

The release explains, throughout the season, a designated batter was chosen for each home game, and if they struck out, a donation of $100 was earmarked for the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank. In total, 53 designated batters struck out during the 2023 season, resulting in a generous donation of $5,300.

Courtney Gray, executive director of the PA Pork Producers Council, emphasized the pork community's commitment to supporting local organizations that aid families in need, saying, "Protein in often in short supply for food banks and this sponsorship allows those in need to have access to a nutritious, wholesome protein source—pork."
