Only one week remains in the tryouts for the viral ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ promotion. Iowa State Cyclone football players Dominique Orange and Carson Rhodes are the next-to-last members of the team trying out for the initiative. The Iowa Pork Producers Association is looking for more Iowa State student athletes to join the NIL (name, image, likeness) partnership to encourage everyone to eat pork.
Orange is a junior defensive lineman from Kansas City. Rhodes is a freshman offensive lineman from Nevada, Iowa.
Orange and Rhodes are hoping to join Myles Purchase, Tyler Moore, Tommy Hamann, Caleb Bacon, Alec Cook and Zach Lovett in the promotion that launched last September and quickly went viral across social media, earned national media attention, and was named the Best NIL Deal of 2023.

In conjunction with their tryouts, the Iowa Pork Producers Association will donate $1,000 worth of pork to Cubbie’s Cupboard in Nevada, Iowa, on behalf of Carson Rhodes, and $1,000 worth of pork to the Food Equality Initiative in Lenexa, Kansas, on behalf of Dominique Orange
“Well, I didn’t think my last name would be worked into anything pork related, but I’m really happy to try it,” Rhodes says. “Obviously we had a really good time with it, and being from Iowa I’ve been eating Iowa pork for a very long time. We have some great pork tenderloin spots in central Iowa. It’s hard to beat a good pork tenderloin.”
“I saw it on social media last year and to be able to be a part of it this year is the coolest thing, while being able to help out people back home, it’s really a blessing,” says Orange.
The updated list of food banks and pantries that will each receive $1,000 worth of pork for the student-athletes’ participation in the ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ videos includes:

October is National Pork Month, #Porktober, and one more tryout video will be released next Monday, Oct. 7, in which the judges, Purchase, Moore, Hamann, and Bacon, will determine the winner(s).
Hy-Vee grocery stores are now promoting the ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ campaign to encourage consumers to buy more pork products. In-store displays featuring the Cyclone players went up in 200 Hy-Vee stores across the Midwest featuring the popular NIL promotion.
Hy-Vee will give away free bacon for a year to 20 recipients and Blackstone Griddles to 10 recipients in conjunction with the promotion. To qualify, consumers simply need to purchase pork at any of the 200 participating Hy-Vee stores between now and October 31 and scan their Hy-Vee PERKS card at checkout. Hy-Vee operates grocery stores in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
