Wuethrich Joins Arm & Hammer Animal and Food Production
Andy Wuethrich joins Arm & Hammer Animal and Food Production as a swine account manager. Wuethrich brings 17 years of swine sales experience to this role, where he will focus on collaborating with the field sales and research teams to help customers improve their swine productivity and performance, according to a company release. As a swine account manager, he will focus on overseeing sales and support for swine accounts throughout the Midwest.

Prior to joining ARM & HAMMER, Wuethrich was a Swine Key Account Manager for Biomin America where he was responsible for swine sales. Wuethrich received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Purdue University. He is based in Peoria, Ill.

Sterle to Serve as New Associate Chair of Teaching at Iowa State
Jodi Sterle, undergraduate teaching coordinator and Eldred Harman Endowed Professorship in Teaching and Learning, will serve a four-year appointment as the Associate Chair of Teaching in the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University.

“Jodi Sterle has been a driver for student success in animal science at Iowa State for many years. It is outstanding to have her join the ranks of administration to enhance our student experiences and to provide a world-class education and training program for people wanting to work in the areas of animal husbandry and health,” Dr. Dan Thomson, professor and chair of the Department of Animal Science, said in a release.

Sterle’s role as the Associate Chair of Teaching will include assisting the department in the administration and finance of the teaching programs, as well as developing and reporting on key performance indicators in the area of teaching. She will coordinate the undergraduate education program, determine graduate teaching needs, and execute new programming to increase industry engagement.

Sterle received her bachelor’s degree in animal science from Michigan State University. She continued her education at the University of Missouri where she obtained a master’s degree and Ph.D. in swine reproductive management. Sterle served as an associate professor and state extension swine specialist at Texas A&M University before coming to Iowa State in 2011.

Hormel Foods Appoints Jacinth Smiley Group Vice President of Corporate Strategy
Hormel Foods Corporation announced the appointment of Jacinth Smiley as group vice president of corporate strategy. Smiley will report to Jim Snee, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Hormel Foods.

In this role, Smiley will be responsible for leading the development and execution of the company’s growth and investment strategies, enabling its acceleration as a global branded food company, the company said in a release. She will replace Jim Splinter, former group vice president of corporate strategy, who retired last year.

Previously, Smiley was vice president and chief accounting officer for LyondellBasell, one of the largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies in the world. She spent 20 years with General Electric (GE) in various roles across multiple industries, rising to chief financial officer for GE Oil and Gas North America. In addition, she held other senior roles within GE Capital and GE’s industrial businesses. Smiley began her career at Arthur Andersen before joining United Technologies, where she worked across the United States, Europe, Middle East and Asia, ultimately becoming the finance manager of United Technologies’ regional treasury center in the United Kingdom. Smiley holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut.
