As the old saying goes-- the way to one’s heart is through one’s stomach. The Oklahoma Pork Council took this idea and brought it to their state capital during Oklahoma’s Annual Ag Day at the Capitol event.
This event hosted at the state capitol each year brings together stakeholders, trade groups and ag promotion organizations to interact with the states elected officials and staff members.
Oklahoma Pork went above and beyond by providing a build-your-own charcuterie board display. The Council’s industry relations manager, Ashton Mese Johnston, explains the board as a “really fun way to not only highlight the diversity of pork products, but also to give us an opportunity that is more than just a transaction of handing them a stick of something, or easy grab-and-go.”
The charcuterie board included a variety of pork meat products, cheeses, fruits and nuts to highlight pork products and “promote our friends throughout the barnyard,” Ashton says.
She believes the extra activity gave their team a couple minutes to build the narrative and talk about the impact pork makes on their state. She described the activity as a fun hybrid of valuable face time as well as something delicious and memorable for the event attendees.
