When it comes to food, bacon is in a class of its own. 2020 has been filled with its share of challenges, pushing people toward their favorite comfort foods. As Jason Menke, director of marketing communications at the National Pork Board says, “Bacon is always there for us.”
And the numbers prove it. Through mid-October, 861.8 million pounds of bacon were sold at retail year-to-date, according to IRI data. That’s $4.67 billion in bacon sales alone. Comparing those numbers to the same timeframe a year ago, that accounts for a 17.3% increase in volume and 21.3% increase in dollar spend.
