Ohio State University students can pig out on bacon this week as they study for finals, and it’s a big hit.

A vending machine installed at OSU’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences on the university’s Columbus campus, offers cooked, shelf-stable bacon strips and bacon bits for $1 each.

The Ohio Pork Council sponsored the machine, with bacon donations from Smithfield, Hormel and Sugardale.

“The Bacon Vending Machine is a unique and fun way for the Ohio Pork Council to support Ohio State students and promote the pork industry at the same time,” said Dave Shoup, president-elect Ohio Pork Council.

Proceeds from the machine will go towards Ohio State’s meat science program. Members of the program will be responsible for machine maintenance. The machine remains on campus through Dec. 13.
