When it comes to discussing African swine fever (ASF), it’s almost easier to say where the virus isn’t rather than where it is. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 40 countries have reported the deadly virus either in wild or domestic pigs during the past five years. Of course, not all of these countries are significant for pork production, but the diversity of ASF’s geographic reach shows how easily the virus can spread. This map highlights in purple the countries with reported ASF cases in the last five years.
