Economic outlook, labor issues and open-pen gestation will lead the topics to be addressed at the 2023 Pork Industry Conference hosted by Four Star Veterinary Service on September 12-13 at the Horizon Convention Center in Muncie, Ind.

On Tuesday evening, participants will gather for a reception and dinner, with time to visit with onsite vendors. On Wednesday, breakfast will kick off the day’s events, with sessions beginning at 8:00 a.m. (EST).

The speakers and sessions include:
• Paul Kalmbach, Jr., president, Kalmbach Feeds, will present a producer-to-producer 2023 industry outlook.

• Steve Meyer, lead economist with Partners for Production Agriculture, will provide an in-depth look at the current pork industry economic conditions and what to expect going forward.

• Taylor Rock, production supervisor at Heimerl Farms, will discuss labor issues that pork producers are facing, as well as a USA and international recruitment development plan.

• Jason Woodworth, research professor at Kansas State University, will offer guidance on nutritional approaches to consider during down markets and tight margins.

• Alan and Jeff Wuebker, co-owners of Wuebker Farms, LLC, will discuss their thought process in converting to open-pen sow gestation.

For the first time ever, the event will feature a rapid-fire session on Wednesday with Four Star veterinarians answering swine health questions from the participants to wrap up the conference, organizers say. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions of the presenters during all sessions.

Early bird registration is $25 per person. There is a group discount available for five or more registrants for $20 per person. After Aug. 11, registration will increase to $40 per person.
