USDA Undersecretary “More Optimistic Than Not” On Trade

Under the 2014 Farm Bill, a new position was created at the USDA to oversee trade and foreign agriculture issues.
President Trump picked former Indiana Agriculture Director Ted McKinney to fill the position of the first ever Undersecretary of Agriculture for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs in July 2017.
Before coming to the USDA, McKinney worked with Dow AgroSciences for 19 years, 14 years with Elanco, and three years as the Hoosier state’s highest agriculture official.
As far as trade relations between the U.S. and other countries, McKinney said he is bullish, citing NAFTA, Japan and the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS).
"When you take those three, I hope that brings that score back up—china being the wildcard in this whole group,” he said.
