FDA Releases Industry Guidance on Food Protection
The Food and Drug Administration has released draft guidance to industry on how companies can comply with regulations to protect food from intentional adulteration.
The 94-page guidance, called “Mitigation Strategies to Protect Food against Intentional Adulteration: Guidance for Industry” is open for comment for six months, or until about mid-December.
The FDA said the draft guidance includes these chapters:
- The Food Defense Plan;
- Vulnerability Assessment to Identify Significant Vulnerabilities and Actionable Process Steps;
- Mitigation Strategies for Actionable Process Steps;
- Mitigation Strategies Management Components: Food Defense Monitoring; and
- Food Defense Plan Worksheets.
The FDA said it will make available for public comment additional and expanded chapters of the draft guidance as they are completed.
