Pork tells a story. Mexican American actor Paulina Chávez wants to know what pork dish tells your family’s story.
She’s teaming up with National Pork Board’s (NPB) consumer brand Explora Todo El Gusto Del Pork and inviting Hispanic Gen Z and Millennial home cooks nationwide to share treasured family pork dishes and the stories and traditions behind them. Selected submissions may be prepared by Chávez and featured in a limited-edition collection launching this fall.
Explora Todo El Gusto Del Pork celebrates the special role food plays in connecting families to their culture, memories and traditions while encouraging the next generation to carry those connections forward in their own way, NPB explains.
Known for her roles in Landman and Fate: The Winx Saga, Chávez is sharing her own connection to the flavors and traditions that shaped her family while encouraging others to do the same as a part of this intiative.
“Every family has a dish that instantly feels like home, and for so many of us, it starts with pork,” Chávez said in a release. “Whether it’s your abuelita’s pozole, your dad’s carnitas or the dish that brings everyone together for the holidays, every pork dish tells a story. I can’t wait to see the recipes and hear the memories behind them, because sharing them is how we preserve our culture, celebrate our traditions and pass our gustos y sabores on to the next generation.”
Cultural Traditions are Prized by Hispanic Consumers
Nearly 40% of the nation’s 68-million Hispanic population are Gen Z and Millennials. A 2026 Spring MRI-Simmons report points out that 70% of Hispanic Gen Z consumers say it’s important that their children continue their family’s cultural traditions, while 74% of Hispanic consumers say cooking at home helps them connect with their cultural identity. In addition, 75% of Hispanic households prepard fresh pork at home, compared with 65% of non-Hispanic households.
One thing is clear from this report: Pork remains at the heart of many Hispanic traditions.
“Food has a special way of connecting generations,” José de Jesús, NPB vice president of market growth said in a release. “Through this initiative, we’re celebrating the role pork plays in the dishes and stories Hispanic families have shared across generations, while encouraging younger consumers to proudly carry those traditions forward and make them their own.”
