Cheyenne McEndaffer, U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) director of export services, explains in the audio clip below that sustainability is an issue of growing importance to international customers of U.S. red meat and other key global audiences. She notes that the focus on sustainability has recently heightened due to events such as the upcoming United Nations Food Systems Summit and the United States rejoining the Paris Climate Accords.

McEndaffer says the U.S. industry emphasizes its unique ability to produce beef and pork using fewer resources and locally produced feedstuffs. These attributes allow for very efficient production of meat while generating lower emissions and a reduced impact on the environment.
