Calling all aspiring photographers, pig enthusiasts and biosecurity buffs! Grab your camera and get ready to participate in USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) “I Protect Pigs” photo contest, showing how you protect your pigs from African swine fever!

Submit up to two photos showcasing your photography skills by capturing captivating moments that emphasize the significance of biosecurity in pig farming to be featured on the Protect Our Pigs website and social media.

The superhero shield that keeps our pork industry safe from pesky pathogens and unwanted intruders—biosecurity photos may play a vital role in educating farmers and consumers about maintaining a healthy farm.

Need some ideas? Here’s a few to get started:

Farm Fashionistas: Ever seen a pig sporting stylish boots? Well, maybe not, but you can certainly capture images of farmers rocking their biosecurity gear – from snazzy overalls to the coolest biosecurity boots in town. Showcase the fashion-forward side of biosecurity!

The Sanitizer Splash: Photograph the meticulous handwashing and sanitizing routines that go into keeping these barnyard beauties squeaky clean. A soapy snapshot might just be your ticket to the top!

Quarantine Quirkiness: Highlight the quarantine zones where new piglets spend their first days on the farm. Show us how they’re pampered and kept safe before joining the larger pig posse.

Not a photographer? No problem! Here’s some quick tips for snapping success:

Light It Up: Natural light can work wonders for your photos. Capture your subjects during the golden hours of dawn or dusk to add an enchanting aura to your snapshots.

Focus on Details: Zoom in on those intricate biosecurity measures – the gloved hands, the footbaths, and the scrub-a-dub-dub moments. Detail shots can tell powerful stories.

Express Emotion: A pig's snout-wrinkling grin or a curious gaze can convey a thousand words. Capture these candid moments that tug at the heartstrings.

To enter the “I Protect Pigs” photo contest, simply upload your snappiest shots to the contest website. Don't forget to include a catchy caption that explains the biosecurity angle of your photograph.

Submissions will be accepted until Sept. 4 with winners to be announced during ASF Action Week, Sept. 18 through 22.

So, whether you're a photography prodigy or just a pig-loving shutterbug, the “I Protect Pigs” photo contest is your chance to shine. By capturing the essence of biosecurity in pig farming, you're not only immortalizing these precious moments but also playing a vital role in educating the world about the pig-biosecurity protocols that keep our pork industry safe.
