Aivlosin® WSG Approved to Control Mycoplasma Hyopneumoniae in Swine

In January 2021, the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine, as well as the Veterinary Drugs Directorate of Health Canada, added Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae to the approved label indications for Aivlosin® (tylvalosin) Water Soluble Granules (WSG).

“This approval gives Aivlosin® WSG the broadest label indication of any product for the control of swine respiratory disease (SRD),” says Chad Smith, U.S. technical service veterinarian for Pharmgate. “M. hyo is a primary pathogen in swine respiratory disease complexes and plays an important role in facilitating the entry of bacterial and viral pathogens. Aivlosin® WSG is competitive economically compared to other protocols on a per-pig basis. Veterinarians and producers can be confident they are making a responsible antibiotic choice to control SRD.”

The new label indications for Aivlosin® WSG in the U.S. and Canada are as follows:
U.S.: Control of porcine proliferative enteropathy (PPE) associated with Lawsonia intracellularis infection in groups of swine in buildings experiencing an outbreak of PPE. Control of swine respiratory disease (SRD) associated with Bordetella bronchiseptica, Haemophilus parasuis, Pasteurella multocida, Streptococcus suis and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in groups of swine intended for slaughter in buildings experiencing an outbreak of SRD.

Canada: For the treatment of Porcine Proliferative Enteropathy (PPE) associated with Lawsonia intracellularis in pigs. As an aid in reducing the severity of Swine Respiratory Disease (SRD) associated with Haemophilus parasuis, Pasteurella multocida, Streptococcus suis and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in groups of pigs experiencing an outbreak of SRD.

The company offers Aivlosin® WSG in two package sizes: 160 grams and 400 grams. According to the release, the product is rapidly absorbed, quickly achieves therapeutic levels and provides the assurance of a zero-day withdrawal period when administered in pigs’ drinking water for five days.

Use of the product requires a veterinary prescription. The company notes that while the new claim approval is effective immediately, it may take some time before new packaging reflecting this approval is widely available in the market.

Inventory Management Software Compatible with HART Sensors
Binventory is now compatible with sensors using the HART protocol or Modbus output, Binmaster says in a release. Plants can manage level data from all vessels with one program. Binventory, an advanced inventory management software, monitors the levels of solids or liquids in bins, tanks or silos from one platform.

According to the release, Binventory works with many types of sensors including non-contact-radar and guided wave radar used for level measurement. The software allows for bulk densities and strapping tables to be entered for solids, while entering specific gravity for liquid tanks ensures spot-on volumes. Complex vessels of different shapes and sizes are easily configured, such as horizontal tanks, split silos, and non-linear tanks.

Program automated alerts, access real-time inventory levels, and generate historical reports from up to 255 vessels on your PC or tablet, the company says. Share access to Binventory with vendors using VMI and authorized users in production, purchasing and finance.

Binventory can be used at one location or across an entire company using its multi-site feature. It requires access to a company LAN, WAN or VPN. Current readings from a vessel are generated by simply clicking on the “get reading” button. This advanced software saves time and eliminates the need to climb silos to measure each bin, making it safer while optimizing inventory levels and storage capacity.

Novus Partners With Agrivida to Bring New Feed Additive Technology to Market
In 2020, Novus International, Inc., announced plans to redefine its business through an enhanced focus on gut health and innovation. The Missouri-based company recently announced a new partnership with Agrivida.

“Agrivida’s novel and innovative technology allows for the delivery of feed additives in a completely unique and very sustainable way – directly inside of the grain. It is technology like this that will further show Novus’s commitment to our customers: to help them produce wholesome, affordable food in an efficient and sustainable way,” said Novus CEO and president Dan Meagher.

Agrivida, a privately held biotechnology company based in Massachusetts, was founded in 2003 by scientists from MIT who discovered a way to incorporate feed additives directly into corn grown for production animals. By having the additive inside of the grain, the molecules are more efficiently absorbed, and producers can improve both animal performance and their bottom line, according to a company release.

The partnership combines Novus’s nearly 30 years of research, sales and marketing experience with Agrivida’s unique technology, allowing both companies to grow the customer base as well as explore new innovative products and solutions through R&D collaboration, the release says.

Novus is making Agrivida products available to its customers in the U.S. immediately while registration is underway to expand to other countries.
