Here’s a round-up of company news in the swine industry.
RealmFive Collaborates with Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health
RealmFive, based in Lincoln, Neb., announced a collaborative effort with Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health to offer connectivity and decision solutions to swine production systems to advance remote connectivity and herd health across the swine industry.
Since before the COVID-19 pandemic, these companies have been collaborating to develop a swine-centric solution that combines the expertise of both companies. Over the last year, the relationship has resulted in a strong collaboration, new products and innovative pilot customers, RealmFive said in a release.
RealmFive’s Barn View solution includes feed, water, air and effluent components. Barn View devices are extremely easy to install, enabling technology adoption, even with animals in barns, the release said.
Steve Tippery, CEO at RealmFive, said “more than 90% of swine barns in North America are not connected to the internet. Because of this, he said most producers are not able to take advantage of the standardization and efficiency gains that come from having access to data across their enterprise.
RealmFive’s team leveraged existing technology to develop versions of the Flex Mini wireless monitoring device. One of the exclusive and patent-pending capabilities of Flex Mini is feed outage detection, the company said.
The entire system is wireless, battery operated and typically installs in a livestock barn in under 30 minutes. Fully cloud-based Barn View software can be viewed on a range of smart devices from a smart phone to a desktop computer.
Boehringer Ingelheim’s FARMERA, a mobile app designed by Boehringer Ingelheim that installs on any Android or iOS smart device, is a new generation in farm management, bringing evidence-based decision making to swine production systems, the company said. It uses real-time, health-related information combined with actionable farm-performance parameters. FARMERA was built to be the hub of an integrated ecosystem. For a given swine production system, the aggregation and collection of data provides streamlined, transparent, and timely availability of information for an overall snapshot at both the farm and production system levels.
RealmFive and FARMERA have an API agreement which allows customer data to be virtually connected from RealmFive’s Barn View platform to Boehringer Ingelheim’s FARMERA data platform, the release said. Barn View and FARMERA have been undergoing pilot deployments across the U.S. and the solution is now available for sale to customers. For more information, contact RealmFive or FARMERA.

Chr. Hansen is joining forces with global agricultural solutions provider UPL in a unique partnership to strengthen the existing portfolio of microbial products and provide farmers with sustainable choices beyond conventional agricultural products, the company said in a release.
“Biological solutions are becoming more and more in demand as the agriculture industry faces challenges such as the growing resistance to chemicals and an increasingly challenging regulatory environment. Developing biostimulants and biopesticides is an important step in providing sustainable crop protection while increasing farmers’ yield and productivity,” Chr. Hansen said in a release.
Under the terms of the partnership, Chr. Hansen will develop biological products based on their microbial capabilities and UPL will register and commercialize these products via its extensive global distribution network.
The Chr.
