Norbrook Laboratories announces it has completed a significant expansion to its U.S.-based facility in Lenexa, Kan., located just south of Kansas City.
The company, which is headquartered in Newry, Northern Ireland, is a global provider of veterinary pharmaceuticals for farm and companion animals.
During the past nine years, Norbrook has doubled its product offerings in the U.S., which necessitated the upgrade to its warehouse receiving, managing and shipping capabilities as well as its office space, according to Bruce Brinkmeyer, vice president of sales and marketing for the company in North America.
“We doubled the size of our warehouse space (in Lenexa) from 30,000 to 60,000 square feet and now have roughly 1,000 temperature-controlled pallet spaces that we maintain with a state-of-the-art heating and cooling system,” Brinkmeyer said during opening remarks at a reception hosted at the facility on April 17.
Maintaining Product Efficacy
Temperature requirements for storing pharmaceutical products to maintain and preserve efficacy are often stringent, according to Scott Egbert, operations manager for the Lenexa facility. He said one of the products in Norbrook’s lineup requires a temperature range that stays constant between 68- and 77-degrees Fahrenheit. Temperature monitors are key to helping achieve that consistency.
“We have installed between 80 and 100 temperature monitors throughout the warehouse to track the temperature ranges,” Egbert said. “Some are placed at high levels within the warehouse, while others are in the middle and lower levels. Temperature mappings of the warehouse also help us make sure there are no hot spots or colds spots or any significant temperature fluctuations.”
The Lenexa facility is the only U.S. distribution center for Norbrook, which was founded in 1969. Product sales across North America represent about 35% of the company’s total business today.
Expansive Growth Underway
Norbrook has a portfolio of more than 300 animal health products, including antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, parasiticides, metabolites and vitamins. The company’s products are distributed in more than 100 countries through a network of long-standing distribution partners.
In the U.S. cattle market specifically, the company recently introduced Tulieve (tulathromycin injection) as its newest anti-infective product.
“We’re excited to have this family-owned company expanding in the U.S. market and adding products to the marketplace that serve veterinarians, livestock producers and pet owners,” said Eric Moore, DVM and technical services director for the company in North America. “This is a significant step we’ve taken to raise the bar on quality standards for our products, ensuring they are in compliance condition all the way through the supply chain from the manufacturing process to the end user.”
