Monitor Barn Environment with BarnTalk
BarnTalk, a plug-n-play, smart-barn monitoring solution including wireless sensors and an easy-to-use mobile app, can improve remote visibility of real-time environmental barn conditions to quickly identify and address costly issues impacting animal health and/or operational inefficiencies, BarnTools said in a release.

BarnTalk monitors a barn’s internal and external temperature, humidity, water consumption and power –from an easy-to-use and secure mobile app that displays real-time barn conditions and alerts users when those environmental conditions fall outside the norm.

The smart-barn monitoring solution provides the data needed to operate more efficiently, the company said in a release. BarnTalk delivers reliable barn connectivity, real-time data and analytics via mobile app, and requires no wiring or costly installation and maintenance.

BarnTalk wireless sensors have been placed throughout the Iowa State Fairgrounds during World Pork Expo. The company encourages producers to download the BarnTalk app and monitor real-time environment conditions while attending World Pork Expo.

Hog Slat, Inc. Announces Expansion of Sow Housing Options
Hog Slat, Inc., announced the expansion of its sow housing options with the introduction of its Free Access Stall. In combination with Hog Slat’s industry-proven stanchion system, this new stall can help producers meet changing welfare standards, the company said in a release.

The most common free access layout consists of two rows of stalls with a common loafing area. As a sow enters the free access stall, the rear door locks behind, allowing her to eat or rest undisturbed. The back gate cannot be opened from the outside by other animals. She can return to the loafing area at any time by pushing against the rear door to release it, the company said in a release.

The stall locking system provides farmworkers with the flexibility to manage a sow herd safely and effectively. According to a release, the front locking lever opens and closes a row of up to 20 stalls with a single motion. Rear individual locks permit retaining a single sow when unlocking the rest of the row. In addition, the lock design allows opening from the rear using a staff or paddle. A step-through rear gate gives the herdsman access for inseminating or treating sows.

The company said its rugged construction uses large stainless steel pivot points to reduce wear along with bumpers in both the down and up positions for quiet operation. As well, Hog Slat’s free access stalls feature a heavy galvanized finish, bolt on feed pipe, double waterer and adjustable stainless steel feet and legs.
