On Sept. 2, The Maschhoffs sold its Oklahoma production pod to Seaboard Foods following discussions concerning Seaboard’s pig needs in Oklahoma, says Bradley Wolter, CEO and president of The Maschhoffs.

Seaboard acquired The Maschhoffs’ sow farms including contracts with its gilt grow-out partner farms and supporting transportation infrastructure in Oklahoma.

“With the proximity of the Seaboard footprint in Oklahoma, it was a natural fit for both. It allows us to continue to focus on a Midwest-based supply chain for our customers, ultimately making it a win-win transaction for both parties,” Wolter says. “We recognize current economic and industry dynamics demand we deliver a cost-efficient operation, and this enables a greater focus on continuous improvement in our existing production regions.”

He says the sale will bring The Maschhoffs team closer together and allow them to focus on a tight-knit culture in a Midwest footprint.

“While it was tough to see our Oklahoma employees go, we know they’re joining a system with a long-term focus as well. We continue to focus on what we consider our greatest resource – our people,” Wolter says. “That’s something the company has been making strides and embracing. Sometimes it’s hard to do for a company of our size spanning six states.”

Currently, The Maschhoffs operates farms in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and Wyoming.

“Our goal in the end is to align our portfolio to meet our customers’ needs through our focus in the Midwest,” Wolter says.
