Donnie Woosley has been charged with arson after causing around $160,000 in damage to a Tyson Foods warehouse in Indianapolis in January.
On Jan. 1, the Indianapolis Fire Department responded to the Tyson Foods building for a fire that started shortly after 1 p.m., Fox 59 reports. First responders said they saw thick smoke emanating from the west side of the building.
Investigators found blue pieces of burnt plastic near the determined origin of the fire, the court documents said. The fire was determined “incendiary” and was set to be investigated as an arson.
Just three days after this incident at Tyson Foods, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the same address after a Tyson employee saw an individual, later identified as Woosley, insert paper in a vehicle’s gas tank opening and attempt to ignite it, Fox 59 reports.
While the officers were on their way to the scene, another call came in saying the same person had returned and allegedly tried to set a semi-truck on fire, the article said. Woosley reportedly emerged while officers and firefighters were on the scene and began yelling at the employees and firefighters.
When he was detained by police on the scene, court documents stated that Woosley had an active warrant calling for his arrest. After being brought to the Community Justice Center, he was later released to a hospital after becoming ill, the article said.
Video footage showed Woosley attempting to set fires and being on the warehouse property between Jan. 1 and Jan. 7. In later interviews with Woosley about the arson incidents at Tyson, he said he had been drugged during the previous week and couldn’t remember anything.
He later said the fire at the warehouse was an accident, Fox 59 reports, and that he only intended to take his anger out on the semi because the driver almost hit him while he was riding his bicycle.
Local news shared that Woosley is facing multiple felony counts of arson for his alleged role in six separate arson incidents last month. In addition, he was charged with criminal mischief after allegedly cutting wires to a life alert system at an apartment complex for seniors.
