In 2020, the Allen D. Leman Swine Conference began sharing conference materials in Spanish. In 2021, they hosted a virtual event exclusively in Spanish. For the second year in a row, this respected industry educational opportunity will be conducted exclusively in Spanish on Nov. 16-17, covering important topics such as health, biosecurity, production, emerging disease and sustainability.
“The Hispanic population continues to grow as estimates report that there’s roughly 20% Hispanics living in the U.S. Very likely, pig production systems are employing Spanish-speaking individuals and some may be working in animal care, production and health,” says Cesar Corzo, Allen D Leman Chair, swine health and productivity, at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. “Therefore, continued education opportunities like this one can help train the team to be knowledgeable and prepare to prevent, control and detect disease. Furthermore, events like this will also motivate the team as it is an opportunity to be exposed to cutting edge information presented by native Spanish-speaking individuals that will help them perform better at work.”
This virtual event will feature two keynote sessions that will cover the current ASF situation in the Dominican Republic and nutritional and feeding strategies when feed ingredients are costly. In addition, the conference will consist of 17 presentations dedicated to respiratory disease control; senecavirus diagnostics, control and elimination; strategies for decreasing mortality in all production stages; best biosecurity practices and sustainability programs presented by industry leaders.
A diagnostic workshop will feature a practical necropsy session with best practices to perform post-mortem examinations.
The cost of this conference is $150. More details can be found at the conference website, including the meeting program that has been translated into English.
“We believe this 1.5-day virtual conference is a great contribution to help train the Spanish-speaking swine community to address current and emerging industry challenges,” Corzo says.
