In today’s market, there is a growing need for a Duroc sire that can produce robust, full-value, and profitable offspring. Since its introduction to the US market in 2022, the TN Duroc has gained popularity as a terminal sire. Producers are choosing the TN Duroc as their preferred Duroc sire to achieve greater profitability in these competitive times. With greater feed efficiency, survivability, and carcass characteristics, the TN Duroc can help improve overall production efficiencies and profitability.

In a recent experimental study, the TN Duroc demonstrated key competitive attributes necessary for sustained profitability and growth in a highly competitive market. The study’s objective was to evaluate performance differences between the TN Duroc and an industry-relevant competitor Duroc line, under conventional health conditions.

The experiment conducted in a commercial research facility comprised 864 offspring per sire line. Pigs were tracked from placement in the facility to marketing. Data recorded at the pen level included average daily feed intake and body weight, and at the individual-level, data collected included mortality rates and carcass characteristics.

The results from this trial comparing the TN Duroc and a competitor Duroc line revealed that the TN Duroc is a more profitable option for pig producers. The study found that the TN Duroc had significantly better feed conversion rates (2.48 vs. 2.51; P = 0.04) and consumed 0.14 less pounds of feed per day (4.53 vs. 4.67; P < 0.01) (Figure 1). Additionally, TN Duroc-sired finishing pigs demonstrated greater survivability, with 3.0% more full-value pigs (90.7 vs. 87.7; P = 0.05) and 3.2% less dead or removed pigs (7.9 vs. 11.1; P = 0.02) throughout the trial (Figure 2). Finally, TN Duroc-sired finishing pigs had improved carcass characteristics, with over half a percentage greater carcass yield (+0.57%; P < 0.01) and better carcass feed conversion (3.37 vs. 3.44; P < 0.01) compared to the competitor Duroc line (Figure 3).

These results validate that the TN Duroc is a more efficient and profitable option for pig producers. The combination of greater feed efficiency (live and carcass), more full-value pigs with fewer mortalities, and improved carcass characteristics (greater yield) make the TN Duroc a superior choice for pig producers. This study provides valuable insight for those in the pig production industry seeking to improve their profitability and efficiency.

The TN Duroc is a reliable solution for producers and processors in today’s market. The combination of robustness and efficiency characteristics results in the TN Duroc producing more full-valued pigs that offer greater profitability to US operations. Living up to its promises, the TN Duroc is chosen for its ability to survive and generate profits.

If you are looking to secure your production’s future, look no further, the TN Duroc has been selected for survivability and profitability.
