Jim and Pam Pool provided an initial gift to jump start the Endowed Chair position in Applied Swine Nutrition at Kansas State University. The endowment will support future faculty to maintain the excellent academic and professional educational standards provided by the K-State swine team.

The Pools shared in a K-State applied swine nutrition newsletter that the K-State Swine Faculty and Applied Swine Nutrition Program had a profound impact on their son Kyle Coble. Coble is a 2015 Ph.D. graduate who currently serves as Nutritional Services Director for JBS Live Pork. His time with the K-State Swine Nutrition Program provided critical foundational training opportunities for his current position.

“Our son was provided mentorship from world-renowned educators that are well rounded and intentional about preparing students for a successful career. This program is built for students by the faculty; not built for the faculty by the students. This is not only unique, but rare, in any college program,” the Pools said in the newsletter.

Both Jim and Pam have had careers in education, and say they have rarely seen this level of hands-on, personal guidance and commitment to a student’s future.

“The educational rigors of the program make sure students are prepared to be contributing assets to a company or other academic programs as they are trained to “hit the ground running” and quickly become leaders in the organizations they serve. This is obvious by the high expectations, scientific acumen, and economic understandings with which students leave the K-State campus,” the Pools said.
