Did you know that the average beard grows about ½ inch per month? With this in mind, I’m guessing there are some really nice COVID-19 beards out there, making this year’s search for the best beards and mustaches in the pork industry more exciting than ever!
2019 judge Tyne Morgan, host of U.S. Farm Report, said she looked at the characteristics of shape, length and body of the beard when evaluating the entries.
“One of the requirements for me is that the beard has to be something that if the hogs could get ahold of it, they’d turn it into a play thing… like we used to do with bowling pins for the 4-H hogs,” said 2019 judge Chip Flory, host of AgriTalk radio show.
In 2020, after reader encouragement, we’ve decided to take it up a notch and add a mustache category, too.
If you think you have what it takes to be named one of the best beards or mustaches in the pork industry (or you’re just a good sport), send in your photo nominations before Dec. 1 to jshike@farmjournal.com.
A panel of illustrious judges will evaluate the entries, complete with commentary. We’ll contact you if you make the cut and report back with the winning beards of the pork industry.
