The National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) says no new states reported porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) in the last week of March, maintaining that tally at 27 states. It reports 247 positive PEDV accessions out of 802 tested, down from a revised 270 the previous week to a grand total of 5,267. NAHLN states, “This maintains the general downward trend in positive case submissions.”
Iowa, the No. 1 pork-producing state in the nation, continues to lead the number of total confirmed cases at 1,694, up 48 from last week. Minnesota follows with 838 confirmed cases, up 45 from last week and North Carolina is third of the list at 538 cases, up 20 from last week.
Also this week, the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets (VAAFM) is reporting its first case of PEDV, with the diagnosis occurring on March 26th from Ruthland County. This brings the number of states with positive cases to 28. Click here for the press release.
