Outstanding contributors to the pork industry were honored this week at the 2021 Missouri Pork Expo in Osage Beach, Mo.
Outstanding Legislator Award
Marcus Belshe, chairman of the Missouri Pork Association (MPA), presented the Outstanding Legislator Award to Senator Caleb Rowden (R-19th District). Senator Rowden was chosen for his outstanding support of the Missouri Pork Association, the Missouri pork industry and all of agriculture.
“Senator Rowden reaches across the isle to bring practicality and common sense to the legislative process, Belshe said in a release. “He is a strong advocate for agriculture, the pork industry and doing what’s right for all Missourians.”
Rowden’s leadership has been instrumental in securing legislation that ensures a level playing field for Missouri agriculture.
Chairman’s Award
University of Missouri state swine breeding specialist Tim Safranski of Auxvasse was honored as the recipient of the prestigious Chairman’s Award. Safranski has been the state swine breeding specialist at the University of Missouri since 1996. He leads an integrated extension/research/teaching program in swine genetics, genetic conservation and reproductive management.
He received his B.S. degree from Oregon State University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Missouri. Safranski, wife Trista (who is also a MU professor), and their sons Carson, Casper, Cooper and Carver live on a farm near Auxvasse.
Each year, the Chairman’s Award is presented to a key individual for their outstanding service and support of the pork industry, the Association and its members.
