For the first time ever, the Iowa State University James D. McKean Swine Disease Conference will host a student poster competition during the preconference with prizes awarded to the top three posters as chosen by popular vote.
All students are encouraged to submit an abstract for the poster session, the conference committee says. Abstract submissions should be completed using the online poster competition application with a May 2 deadline for submissions.
The submission requirements include a maximum 1-page word document. Citations are not included in the page maximum and should be listed at the end of the abstract. It must include the following information: introduction/background, methods, results and conclusions. The presenting author must register for the conference.
Authors will be notified of selection to display at the preconference by May 14. If selected, an infographic style poster will be required and the submitted abstract will be included in the conference proceedings.
The competition will take place in Ames, Iowa on June 24 during the preconference. Abstracts presented at a previous conference are eligible for submission to this session. Prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st place: $500, 2nd place: $300, 3rd place: $200.
“The James D. McKean Swine Disease Conference enables swine practitioners to assist pork producers in a rapidly changing and global production environment by enhancing practitioner decision-making tools in disease control, animal welfare, and food safety for the benefit of animals, clients and consumers,” the conference committee says.
