The 2024 Iowa Swine Day program has a program packed with highly regarded speakers focusing on important issues facing U.S. pork producers, the Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) announced in a release. From the morning plenary session to the four category-specific concurrent sessions in the afternoon, a wealth of knowledge and experience will be available.

The 12th annual event will be held Thursday, July 25 (a month later than usual) at the Scheman Building on the Iowa State University campus in Ames. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the official program starts at 8 a.m. A special pre-conference and evening BBQ social will take place on July 24. Registration for all activities is $85 per person.

The plenary session speakers will set the learning stage right from the start.

Ross Bernstein, an inspirational business speaker from Apple Valley, Minn., will weave sports stories about the DNA of champions, along with stories of companies who he has worked with around the world, and share best practice ideas on ways to overcome disruption, while ultimately building stronger relationships. At the core of his message is the simple fact that we like to do business with people who we trust, who we like, and who just “get it” - CHAMPIONS.

Steve Weiss, CEO of NutriQuest in Mason City, Iowa, will review the current state of the U.S. pork industry and outline his view around the most critical factors for improving sustainability, profitability and growth.

After this, Jamee Eggers, chief operating officer of Cloverleaf Animal Welfare Systems in St. Joseph, Mo., will discuss the California Proposition 12 certification process including regulations, definitions and what happens during an on-site inspection of Prop 12 sow farms.

The afternoon is organized into four concurrent sessions: current topics, improving on farm labor, protecting herd health and Iowa State University research. Each session has four presentations, and attendees are welcome to listen to all speakers in one concurrent session or choose to move between sessions.

The full program, information, registration forms and information and directions to the venue are available on the Iowa Swine Day conference website.

Iowa Swine Day is hosted by the Iowa Pork Industry Center. Sponsorships will be accepted until June 1.
