Pork Sector Turns Higher: Cutout Gains Nearly $2/cwt. While Packer Losses Narrow

Pork industry market dynamics last week were generally at the other end of the spectrum from the beef industry with the average pork cutout gaining for the week and averaging $104.11/cwt. against $102.21/cwt. the prior week. The W. Cornbelt Negotiated Lean Carcass Value averaged $100.94/cwt. against $99.32/cwt. the prior week.

Consequently, producer margins gained to average $100.94/head while Sterling estimate for packer margins posted an average of -$3.52/head compared to -$4.11/head a week earlier.
