Maximize Airflow and Filter Life: AAF Brings High-Efficiency Filtration to U.S. Pig Farms

Launched at the World Pork Expo, the BioShield VXLA offers MERV 15 and 16 protection with 30% more media area to maximize airflow and extend service life in demanding swine environments.

A new high-efficiency filtration product is now available for U.S. pig farmers. AAF International, a member of the Daikin Group, introduced the BioShield Line for Animal Science at the World Pork Expo. The first product in this family of filters is the BioShield VXLA, a 17-inch-deep V-bank filter rated at MERV 15 and MERV 16.

This filter is designed for swine facilities requiring high airflow, long filter life and reliable biosecurity performance. Airborne disease transmission remains a persistent threat in commercial swine operations.

“Typically, this has been a European-made product, but with the increased freight costs and tariffs, that product is now being produced here in the United States,” explains Rob Langenhorst, technical sales manager for AAF International. “The biggest change with this filter is that it helps lower that footprint for the producers. Farms only have so much space to create a filter bank. With this filter, you need less linear footage of filter wall. The MERV 15 variety also has the highest airflow mechanical filter out there, so you are getting maximum airflow when utilizing these in the barns.”

BioShield VXLA incorporates 30% more media area than a comparable 12" deep V-bank filter, allowing for a slower increase in resistance as dirt builds up, Langenhorst says. The extended media area helps reduce changeouts and maintain ventilations performance over longer operating periods.

“This helps maintain higher airflow for a given pressure drop over a longer period of time and can result in extended service life and subsequent reduction in maintenance frequency,” he says.

The water-repellent media within BioShield VXLA maintains filtration efficiency through the wet, high-humidity conditions common in swine operations. A seamless foam-in-place gasket and fully sealed corrosion-resistant plastic frame minimize bypass and withstand the handling conditions of barn installation and changeout. BioShield VXLA is fully incinerable, simplifying end-of-life disposal for agricultural operations.

The BioShield VXLA is available now from AAF International. Full product specifications and ordering information are available here.
