China has cleared the way for imports of pork from regions of Russia without African swine fever (ASF), its customs agency said in a statement on Thursday.

Russia's agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor told Reuters the ban had been in place since 2008. Russia has been working since 2013 to ensure the admission of pig products to the Chinese market, Oreanda News reports.

This process has included negotiation, organization of visits by representatives of China to Russia to get acquainted with the work in the pig industry, and more. Inspection and quarantine requirements for Russian pork exported to China will be formulated separately, Oreanda News reports.

Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui earlier said that China is striving to increase cooperation with Russia in all areas and intends to achieve the goal of a record $200 billion trade turnover, the article said.
