BinSentry Inc. announced it has filed six international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) to secure broad patent protection for the technology that supports its feed bin level monitoring platform.
The company says the six PCT filings advance BinSentry’s intellectual property strategy and its intention to protect its cutting-edge innovations as it continues to develop technology solutions to help transform the $500-billion global animal feed supply chain.
“Filing the PCT applications marks an important milestone in protecting our IP on a global scale and strengthens our position as the industry leader providing scalable innovations that deliver clear results and measurable value for our customers,” Nathan Hoel, BinSentry co-founder and CTO, said in a release.
The PCT applications cover a suite of technologies that extend from feed mill to barn, the company says, including:
- System and Method for Managing a Multi-Bin Feed System (PCT/CA2026/000034): Detects when bin slides should be swapped, or have not been swapped, to prevent outages.
- Detection and Removal of Obstruction From Height Map of Material in a Bin (PCT/CA2026/000015): Removes unwanted objects from 3D readings using artificial intelligence (AI).
- Method of Mapping Bulk Material in a Bin Using Modified Radial-Basis Function (PCT/CA2026/000036): Novel algorithm extrapolates topology data to fill in the blank spots of the feed surface that the sensor cannot see to enable a complete volume calculation.
- Direct Time-of-Flight Sensor for Measuring Level of a Bin (PCT/CA2026/051083): A better form of time-of-flight measurement for reading bin levels.
- Sensor System Having RGB Camera and Time-of-Flight Camera (PCT/CA2026/000016): Combines a colour camera with time-of-flight to get better images, data and rendering.
- Self-Cleaning Sensor System for a Bin (PCT/CA2026/051069): A rotating housing that keeps the optical windows from getting dirty.
Ben Allen, BinSentry CEO, says these applications underscore BinSentry’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge science to provide major protein producers and feed millers with purpose-built tools that have the biggest impact on their bottom line. Learn more here.
