Producer Margins Hold Near $66 as Packer Losses Narrow

Farrow-to-finish margins last week were little changed from the prior week and averaged $66.49/head compared to $66.67/head the previous week.

The W. Cornbelt Lean Carcass Value averaged $97.25/cwt., and little changed from the prior week’s average at $96.86/cwt.

Sterling’s estimate of pork packer margins was -$7.73/head compared to -$11.63/head the prior week.

Market hog slaughter for the week at 2,307,406 head left plant capacity utilization at 89%. Increased market activity last week supported the Pork Cutout which averaged $98.49/cwt. compared to $96.23/cwt. the prior week.
