Pork Producer and Packer Profits Slip in Tandem

Farrow-to-finish margins last week averaged $38.45/head against $43.46/head the prior week with $3/cwt drop in the average W. Cornbelt Lean Carcass Value which averaged $86.49/cwt.

The lower hog cost did not help packer margins as the Pork Cutout averaged $91.77/cwt., down from the prior week’s average of $95.03/cwt. Sterling’s packer margin calculation for the week averaged $1.70/head compared to $2.17/head the prior week with the projected annual average to be $3.50/head.
