Spain, the European Union’s leading pork producer, has reported the first two cases of ASF in wild boar outside of the original outbreak area.
Output during October-December in the world’s largest pork producer surged to 15.7 million metric tons.
The court issued more rulings Wednesday but did not act in the tariffs case, which was argued on Nov. 5.
The court-ordered move follows concerns raised this month that the outbreak detected in wild boars could have been caused by a laboratory leak.
China significantly reduced tariffs on European Union pork imports. While this offers some relief to European producers heavily reliant on the Chinese market, the imposed tariffs of 4.9% to 19.8% for five years still concern the industry.
The investigation will examine 2024 pork imports and their impact on Mexico’s pork industry from 2022 to 2024.
The move aligns Britain with the European Union’s regionalization approach, which restricts trade only from outbreak zones.
The experts in virology and risk management will visit the exclusion zone around the affected area to survey the situation, provide advice and prepare a follow-report with recommendations.
Although this is the sixth isolated outbreak of ASF in South Korea this year, it’s the first time in South Chungcheong, the largest pig farm region in the country and an area that had not seen a previous outbreak.
