TBT: Perfecting her ‘Swine Dive’

TBT: Perfecting her ‘Swine Dive’

This is a real throwback for PORK editor JoAnn Alumbaugh. The old Pork Producers Reference magazines had a caption contest each month on a page called “Just for Fun.”

I was executive director of the National Association of Swine Records at the time (VERY early in my career) and Julie Terstriep was working with me in our office in Macomb, Ill. We enjoyed looking at pig-related magazines and they helped us stay current on industry news.

Julie and I collaborated on the caption for this photo of a sow resting in what used to be a child’s swimming pool, and thought our entry was pretty clever: “I’m afraid I still need to improve my swine dive somewhat.”

Sadly, I no longer have the t-shirt from our winning entry, but it was a fun way to break up the work day. Maybe we’ll try something similar on our Facebook page in the future!
