AgriTalk After the Bell: “Short Growing Season Could Be the Risk.”

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had an early end of the growing season – that could be the issue to watch with some corn going in the ground later than many growers would like.” That’s what Pro Farmer Editor Brian Grete told AgriTalk After the Bell host Chip Flory on today’s show.  He explained, “Getting some extra days on the end of the growing season has fixed some planting season problems in the past few years, but we haven’t had an early end of the season for a few years and, odds are, it will happen again at some point. And if it’s going to happen, most farmers would prefer it comes in a year when corn went in the ground early.”

Grete also said he’s been impressed by action in the corn market so far this week, chalking up the ability of December corn futures to remain above $4.00 to the growing realization that at least trendline corn yields are needed this year to meet expected demand and to keep 2018-19 corn ending stocks from tightening.
