Wild Pigs Cause Problems in San Jose
Wild pigs are wreaking havoc and causing damage to the Coyote Creek Golf Course in San Jose, Calif.
According to KRON4 News, the pigs are coming out of the surrounding wildlands and rooting up the rough and fairways in search of grubs.
Although this problem isn’t new, the pigs are getting smarter and finding ways to avoid traps and get around fences.
City Councilman Johnny Khamis told KRON that it’s time to thin the heard.
The challenge? Shooting firearms is illegal inside city limits and the city says it’s too risky to hire an archer to kill the pigs because the golf course is located too close to Highway 101.
A wounded pig is a dangerous pig, the city says.
In addition to destroying city grasses and golf course lawns, they are also destroying the area’s wildlife habitat.
In 2020 alone, USDA estimates there are 6 million feral swine in the U.S. creating issues for traditional livestock production, natural resources and other species.
