USDA files action against New York company

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has filed an administrative action under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act against Penny Tsigaris, doing business as Manavi Produce.

The New York company allegedly failed to make full payment to three produce sellers in the amount of $385,021 from February 2015 through January 2016, according to a USDA release.

Tsigaris, doing business as Manavi, may request a hearing, but if USDA finds that the company violated PACA, it would be barred from the produce industry for two years. Furthermore, Tsigaris, the individual, could not be employed by any PACA licensee for a year and then only with the posting of a USDA-approved surety bond.
