USDA approves fresh star apple fruit from Vietnam

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has authorized U.S. imports of fresh star apple fruit from Vietnam.

The notice, effective Jan. 19, said that all imports of fresh star apple fruit, also known as Chrysophyllum cainito, must be treated with irradiation for pest eradication before shipment to the U.S.

The fruit must also be individually wrapped in plastic prior to shipment to reduce the risk of post-treatment pest reinfestation, according to the USDA.
