Starbucks is adding a plant-based Beyond Meat Inc. breakfast sandwich to its Canadian menu starting on March 3.
On Wednesday, Starbucks unveiled the Beyond Meat, Cheddar and Egg Sandwich as part of its spring additions, MarketWatch reports.
Starbucks worked with Beyond Meat to come up with a rosemary, fennel and herb flavored patty flavored patty, the article said.
This news follows a recent announcement from Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Rosalind Brewer on the coffee giant’s first-quarter earnings call that a plant-based breakfast sandwich would be coming to both Canada and the U.S., MarketWatch reports.
Adding plant-based menu options is part of Starbucks’ sustainability commitment, the company said.
Dunkin Brands Inc. added the Beyond Sausage sandwich to its menu in November and claims the launch has been successful. This sandwich is made with 100% plant-based protein and a mix of spices blended specifically for Dunkin’. It is served on an English muffin with an egg and American cheese.
Meanwhile, Burger King saw sales of its plant-based Impossible Whopper decelerate in the fourth quarter, because it’s at a price point that’s challenging for some consumers.
