Beyond Feed Mitigation Furst Animal Health introduces the next generation of nutrition for health

After extensive research, product development and commercial testing, Furst Animal Health has launched Furst Protect, its first product that specifically focuses to providing nutrients for the immune system. It was recently evaluated in a study by Dee et al. (2020) and found to be a significant tool for supporting pigs when exposed to viral disease (PRRS 174, PEDv and SVA) through a contaminated feed challenge model, according to a company release. The study demonstrated that Furst Protect was still able to maintain the health of the pig by supporting the pig’s immune system even though viable viruses were present in the feed.

The product provides pigs, poultry and calves with multiple highly-available fatty acids and monoglycerides, along with several powerful natural antioxidants to support and maintain optimum health. Additional research by Furst Animal Health has shown that sow farm supplementation with Furst Protect can achieve long-term health support benefit for the gains of the whole production system as health flows downstream, the release notes.

“What we’ve been able to accomplish through the development of Furst Protect goes well beyond feed mitigation,” says Dr. Fredrik Sandberg, VP of Health and Nutrition, in the release. “Our exclusive nutrients including fatty acids, monoglycerides and antioxidants support both the innate and acquired immune response supporting the animal from challenges and helping the animal win."

“Feed mitigants are getting a lot of attention today, and for good reason,” says Steve England, executive vice president, in the release. “But Furst Protect is more than that. It’s more than an MCT and more than a straight monoglyceride. We believe it’s the most comprehensive feed supplement on the market today. It’s our first feed product that truly achieves nutrition for the immune system in a comprehensive manner, and the results we’re seeing lead me to believe we’ve delivered something to the swine industry that will make a real difference to the producer and their herds.”

Protect Feed Grains from Deadly Mycotoxins During Wet Years with Brookside Agra's All-Natural FloBond

Mycotoxins can have a devastating effect on poultry, livestock and swine production. During wet years, the possibility of mycotoxins from mold and fungi growth in grain products and storage bins is even greater. Brookside Agra’s FloBond helps protect animals from the threat of mycotoxins, according to a company release.

FloBond is a 100% organic-certified binder and anti-caking agent that is has been proven through multiple laboratory studies and field trials to bind with the mycotoxin to form a larger particle that is unable to pass through an animal's gut wall. Instead, the larger particle is safely secreted from the animal's body through its feces. FloBond does not affect the feed's vitamins, minerals, nutrients or flavors, the release says.

"Feed grains and storage bins exposed to moisture are more susceptible to growing mold and fungus. Adding cost-effective FloBond to animal feeds provides insurance to farmers that their animals will be protected from mycotoxins, no matter what quality of feed grains they may be working with. If your livelihood depends on your animals' health, why would you want to leave that to chance when you have an affordable protection option with FloBond?" said Tim Nelson, vice president - animal health and nutrition sales at Brookside Agra, in the release.

FloBond comes in powdered and granulated formulas that work with standard mixing equipment to blend with regular feed. It is approved by the United States Department of Agriculture and contains no dioxins, chemicals or additives and is allowed in European Economic Community countries. FloBond is available in 50-lb bags and 2,000-lb bulk bags.
