The National Pork Board was ahead of its time when it initiated the We Care Principles 10 years ago.

“The effort has two fundamental messages: First, it strongly encourages farmers and employees to understand and consistently use best practices in raising animals,” it states on the Pork Board’s website. “Second, We Care is a promise to the public that as an industry, America’s pig farmers are committed to responsible and ethical animal agriculture.”

Bill Even, CEO of the National Pork Board, told Farm Journal’s PORK earlier this year that it’s time for the industry to “challenge ourselves on metrics and continuous improvement. The NPB board of directors, along with the board of the National Pork Producers Council began a new joint effort this year to refresh We Care, as We Care 2.0.

“Consumers have choices and we want them to feel good about choosing pork,” Even says.
