Nebraska to Get a Pork Plant

A Nebraska pork cooperative is moving ahead with a $3-million, members-only, packing plant. The 190 producer members of Family Quality Pork Processors will build the plant near Petersburg, Neb.

FJB, a London, England, firm will design the 20,000-square-foot packing plant. The nearby Petersburg Specialty Meats will further process the carcasses.

Family Quality Pork Processors' board of directors intend to slaughter 170,000 hogs annually at the new plant. The eventual goal is to increase the slaughter number to 250,000 pigs a year.
