Lauren Schwab, a full-time farrowing house manager at Schwab Family Farms in Oxford, Ohio, this week was named one of eight finalists for the U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance (USFRA) "Faces of Farming and Ranching" contest.
"There's no greater feeling to grow up working with animals on the land and knowing how my food is raised," Schwab said in hervideo submissionfor the USFRA contest. "I realize not everyone gets that opportunity. I want to open up my farm gate to allow people to see how their food is produced."
Schwab Family Farm in Butler County, Ohio is a 1,200-sow breed-to-wean farm that is owned and operation by her parents.
Contest winners, who will be announced Nov. 9 during the annual meeting of the National Association of Farm Broadcasters in Kansas City, Mo., will spend the next year sharing their agriculture stories on a national stage through public appearances, events, media interviews and social media.
